To escape the encroaching Nazi occupation, children’s book author/illustrators Hans A. Rey and his wife Margret Rey carried just little of their worldly possession on their bicycles when Paris fell. Included was a manuscript about an inquisitive little monkey.
66 years later, Curious George has become one of the most beloved illustrated characters for both young and old. Recently, Origami teamed up with the playful caricature to launch a series of limited edition outerwear. Featuring iconic illustrations of Curious George, such as him launching origami paper boats down the river and in a space suit. Each of the print was imprinted on DuPont Tyvek, the same insulation fabric found on the construction of buildings. Outfitted with RiRi zippers and mesh linings, the Origami x Curious George will be available at a few selected retailers.

CLASSIC RECORD: Steely Dan - Aja
Forget for a moment the album's surreal sonic perfection, its melodic and harmonic complexity - music so technically demanding its creators had to call in A-list session players to realize the sounds they heard in their heads but could not play, even on the instruments they had mastered. Concentrate instead on the profound sadness of Steely Dan's exquisitely arranged Aja. If you couldn't comprehend how Steely Dan, a nearly imaginary band that hadn't released a studio album in two decades, won this year's Album of the Year Grammy away from Radiohead and Eminem, this is the place to start understanding why.
Rock has always excelled at embodying adolescent ache. But it's rare when rock captures the complications of adult sorrows almost purely with its sound. Drummer Paul Humphrey's upstroke during the beginning of "Black Cow," the 1977 album's languid opener, is so hesitant, so world-weary that it barely catches up to the pulse he sets with his foot. On the eight-minute title track, instruments layer onto a different drummer, adding chord on top of chord, harmony on top of harmony, until tom-toms and cymbals thunder, raging all that ornate aural architecture away.
Aja's extended tracks achieve their power through a dynamic dance: Mellow, stark passages (which drew a blueprint for "smooth jazz" radio) are offset by obsessively dense musicianship, stacks of notes that grasp at euphoria. Some of the era's hottest jazz instrumentalists - Joe Sample, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Tom Scott - soar through what's often on the surface utterly jubilant. "Peg," the album's biggest hit, is nearly disco, and "I Got the News" isn't far away. The closing cut, "Josie," almost plays the celebration straight, though its backward-looking R&B keeps getting tripped up by restless rhythms. But there are so many unresolved chords, so much sweet dissonance, that the album's sleek virtuosity collapses against itself, leaving behind a loneliness rendered mostly oblique by Donald Fagen's heady wordplay. On "Deacon Blues," he cuts through his own cleverness to paint a picture of noir-shaded simplicity: "Drink Scotch whiskey all night long and die behind the wheel." That's Aja: frustration and failure at the heart of the party.
and for those who have no clue who Tom Scott is (see Pete Rock and CL Smooth - They Reminisce Over You sample).
this is one of those albums my mom snuck into my vocabulary as a kid....
fly album.

COMMON TO PLAY GREEN LANTERN IN JUSTICE LEAGUE
MR + MRS SMITH star ADAM BRODY has beaten JUSTIN LONG to the role of THE FLASH in the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, according to new Internet reports.
A source close to the set of the movie tells website iesb.com that Brody has landed the superhero part, while multiple insiders claim rapper Common will play John Stewart/The Green Lantern in the film.
The site also claims that stories connecting actress Teresa Palmer to the part of Wonder Woman in the movie are not true; instead she has been cast as Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra's al Ghul.
The website reveals, "Actors have been sworn to secrecy and have been warned not to reveal their involvement even to their closest friends and relatives.
"One studio source, who has been asked not to be mentioned by name, told the IESB that several actors that starting talking early on were warned by the production that they could lose the role if they revealed their character or even the fact that they had been cast."

"A Good Album Is More Than Just A Collection Of Singles'' Jermaine Dupri
"Some people find it hard to understand my man Jay-Z’s decision not to let iTunes break up his American Gangster album and sell it as single tracks. They say he’s fighting the future and losing out on sales from fans who only want to download singles. But I say it was a stand somebody had to take in the music industry. Jay is speaking for all of us.
He’s not the first. He’s not the lone cowboy in all of this. Radiohead and AC/DC have turned their backs on iTunes for the same reason. Doug Morris, the CEO of Universal Group, has been fighting Steve Jobs on this for a minute now. But Jay is at a level people are going to pay attention to. He’s had 10 number one albums. He may run Def Jam but he’s also an artist who put his heart and soul into something that he wants people to hear all the way through. As the creator and investor, he has every right to demand this.
Not only that, I believe he’s starting a movement that’s necessary. More artists and producers are gonna take back control of how their art is sold because his strategy has paid off. Maybe Hova coulda sold another 100,000 to 200,000 units by playing it iTunes’ way, but he still had the number one album last week. He STILL sold 425,000 units. Even more, he’s proven you can still sell an album without those guys."

Jordan Spiz'ike 11/23 Release
Jordan Spiz'ike 11/23 Release
This (Black) Friday, November 23, they will be releasing the Jordan Spiz'ike at 9am. Of all the colorways that have been released, this is in our opinion, the best and most fitting. The iconic "Jordan" colors and prints coupled with the various Jordans (III, IV, V, VI, IX) used to create this shoe make this the hottest Spiz'ike release in a while.

Man Involved In Incest Saved From Lynching
A Muslim who married his 15-year-old daughter and made her pregnant had to be rescued from angry villagers in the Indian state of West Bengal, police say
Afazuddin Ali, 36, has five children - three of them daughters.
A few months ago Ali married his eldest daughter, telling his wife Sakina that Allah had ordained him to do so.
Not convinced by his story, his angry neighbours in Kasiajhiora village nearly lynched him for what they said was a clear case of incest.
Marriage within the nuclear family is forbidden in Islam.
'Divine sanction'
"He is a deeply religious man and will never lie in the name of Allah," Sakina told a court in the northern district of Jalpaiguri.
"I agreed to his marriage with our eldest daughter when he invoked divine sanction," she said.
But this story has failed to impress the other villagers.
"We didn't know she was married so when we confronted his wife, she told us about the bizarre marriage six months ago," Sheikh Ramzan, a village leader at Kasiajhiora, said.
"We wanted to smash his head, we were so angry."
When the angry mob attacked Ali on Sunday, a police team went to the village and rescued Ali and his wife.
The couple were produced before a magistrate in Jalpaiguri on Monday.
But as the lower court has no criminal jurisdiction, Ali and his wife were released.
"The police have not lodged any specific charge against Afazuddin (Ali) and my court has no jurisdiction over criminal matters, so what can I do," sub-divisional officer Atanu Roy said.
Angry villagers say that is not good enough.
"The girl is a minor, so at the very least her father should face criminal charges for marrying a minor," villager Sheikh Ramzan said.
Ali and his wife have not returned home because they fear a fresh attack from angry villagers.
They are staying in Jalpaiguri town at the moment.

Was surfing the net and came across these ingeniously simple pillows. Why is it that simplicity always prevails? Remember that people. Hannes Broecker - Drink Away The Art
Forget about wandering through an art gallery and wondering if you’re the only one who has no idea what anything means. Hannes Broecker has brilliantly invited the cultural elite to grab a glass at an exhibition in Dresden, Germany, and drink away the art.
Regardless of what we do or do not understand about art, we can all agree, it stimulates our senses. Broecker has aroused our sense of taste (not to mention eliminated the need of elbowing our way to the bar) by hanging flat, glass containers with a variety of cocktails in the exhibition space. As the night progressed, the levels of the multi-coloured infusions diminished. By the end of the event, the art, itself, ran dry, and empty drinking glasses were returned to where they were originally placed. By Andrew J Wiener (spotted by CH reader, Chris Bothge)

Focus: The Perry Bible Fellowship
I came across this website a long time ago, and it had me rolling. From the demented mind of Nicholas Gurewitch comes The Perry Bible Fellowship, a childhood fantasy world with a twisted spin on it. In short, hilarious as fuck.
It's a newspaper comic strip and webcomic by Nicholas Gurewitch. It originated in the Syracuse University newspaper The Daily Orange. The comics are usually three or four panels long, and are generally characterized by the juxtaposition of whimsical childlike imagery or fantasy with extremely morbid, absurdist humour. Common themes include religion, sexuality, war, science fiction, suicide, irony, violence, and death.
Check out his website @ www.pbfcomics.com, guaranteed you laugh outloud more than 4 times.

GA. Boys Ages 8 and 9 Charged With Rape
Ga. Boys Ages 8 and 9 Charged With Rape
Published: 11/19/07, 7:05 PM EDT
ACWORTH, Ga. (AP) - Three boys, ages 8 and 9, were being held Monday in a detention center on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl near a suburban apartment complex, officials said.
The alleged attack happened Thursday and the girl's mother reported it to authorities Sunday, Acworth police Capt. Wayne Dennard said.
"The victim said they were playing outdoors and the girl was forced into a wooded area where she was sexually assaulted, where one of the boys raped her," Dennard told The Associated Press.
The three boys - an 8-year-old and two 9-year-olds - appeared in juvenile court Monday afternoon, dwarfed by the courtroom chairs and wearing navy blue jump suits and shackles. Their names were withheld because of their age.

Kanye West Breaks Down On Stage In Paris
Only a week after his mother's death, Kanye West returned to the concert stage Saturday night in Paris, only to dramatically break down in tears, audience members tell PEOPLE.
Nearing the end of the more than 60-minute performance, with the riff of "Hey Mama" beginning, West attempted to introduce the tribute to a sold-out crowd at Le Zénith in Paris, saying "this song is for my mother...." and could get no further.

The Grub Zone: Rico's Burritos
Its not really the name of the spot....but thats what I call it. Its a spot out in Pasadena with no name, and the menu is old school...where u can rearrange the letters yourself. At first, I was a bit iffy on this spot seeing as it got a B from the Health Inspector....but I was hongree (different level of hunger). I asked for a breakfast burrito, he nodded once like a samurai would, then raised his finger and said, "BURRITO!!!!" in the heaviest accent I had ever heard. The cook behind him took a tortilla and piled a bunch of goodies on top, then wrapped it ever so tightly. It took him like 2 minutes to give me my order....straight up. When I opened the bag....time stopped, a shimmer of light shot out of the bag and raced towards the heavens, and fanfare ensued.
exactly.
I giggled after the first bite, cried after the second, and trembled with fear after the third....this burrito was no joke.
If you are ever in Pasadena....on a street called Arroyo...and you happen to pass a spot with no name, next to a Trader Joes....you should definately holler at one, only go if you dont mind being itis'd up though.
