HAPPY FRIDAY: Against My Window.....
Well it's finally raining in good ol' sunny California, and I ain't mad. I ended up at Mickey D's this morning (near Crenshaw and Adams) and waited in easily the longest McDonalds line in history. When I finally got to the menu I drew a blank and in my hazy hangoverish state I proceeded to order a #4 with an extra sandwich......little did I know that the #4 was the sausage biscuit w/ egg meal. My body fell into the tight grip of the Greek goddess known as Itis just from breathing in the smell. Disappointed in my selection, I pulled up to the street and signaled for a right turn. Traffic flow was rather heavy so I decided to wet my whistle and prepare my sausage biscuit sandwich, applying ketchup and the hashbrown that came with it (double decker nigga.). As I began to put the final touches onto my sandwich and lay down the hashbrown, I was honked at from behind which caused me to make a right turn without making sure everything was secure in my lap. Now, you may be asking yourself...."why didn't he just hold everything down with one hand and turn with the other?" and to answer your question...because my car don't have power steering you nosy bitch. My 90 percent prepared breakfast went flying to the floor of my car and ketchup was no longer the only topping on the sandwich.
Then this song came on.....exactly.
Happy Friday,
Lee, Zack

Lil Wayne/Kristen Bell Complex Cover
So Lil Wayne is on the cover of the new Complex magazine....and much like hip hop, it seems that even magazines are running out of good ideas. Taking the same cover that Vibe did back in the day on 2Pac and throwing Weezy in the same vein. Now it could be that they are trying to show similarities between the two, but I'm definately not feeling it. Primarily because Pac stood for more than Wayne did, so the question "Is 2Pac Crazy or Just Misunderstood?" actually had a bit more meaning behind it. Where as Weezy just does a lotta drugs.....he's dope though, I just don't think they should have done this. But on the flip side....he aint never ran from a nigga, and he damn sure aint bout to pick today to start runnin....get money.
And if that cover didn't really do it for you, then you can join me by purchasing the version with my newest snowflake fetish....Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Heroes)!

NEWS: Nas Reveals Details About 'Nigger', Song Titles
"If you thought Nas was being controversial with an album titled ******, wait until you hear some of the song titles he has for the project. The MC reached out to MTV News earlier this week to reveal a bit more about the work-in-progress.
"I have a song called 'The Fear,' " he said. "The full title of the record is 'The Fear of the Black Man's D---.' That's some sh-- you can get comedy [from], or you can get some seriousness from it when you talk about the barbaric castrations that happened in our past — which is very serious, nothing to laugh at."
Nas also said that despite the serious name of his project — which has already set off a firestorm of controversy — the LP will be balanced, and he emphasized that he is not singling out any one race.
"It's not an attack on white people at all," he promised, regarding the record's content. "It's knowledge; it's understanding for all people. It's not an attack on any race."
Nas clarified that he will be combating a myriad of racial slurs, not just the one after which he named his album.
"It's about the attacks that have happened to blacks, whites, all ethnicities," he continued. " 'Mick' ******s, 'guinea' ******s, 'kike' ******s. I have a song called 'You a ****** Too.' "
"It's all over the place," he added. "Balance is so important because there's a fun level to the [album] too. There's an attractive, sexy, aspect to it; a stylish aspect, a flashy aspect. It takes negatives and makes them good."
While Nas had originally hoped to release the album next month, rather than rush the project, he decided to take his time and rescheduled the album's drop date for February: Black History Month."

Focus: Mrzyk & Moriceau and Félicien Rops
I saw this last year at LACMA and I've been looking for it ever since. They start with blank walls and then draw some of the weirdest, interesting, disturbing, hilarious shit from one end of the gallery to the other.
For their ephemeral wall drawing, Mrzyk and Moriceau integrate a selection of Rops prints taken from the museums extensive collection of nine hundred works by the artist, which was generously given by Michael G. Wilson in 1983, and is one of the largest in the United States.
Referencing popular imagery and literary, philosophical, and political sources, Mrzyk and Moriceau ironically combine dark humor and absurd elements with a graphic, elegant style. Spidery imagery bordering on the Gothic creates an aura of sinister, anxious thoughts, alongside a graphic repertoire of body parts, deformations, and strange characters enveloped and destroyed by carnivorous plants or swallowed by mechanical devices.
Rops too used irony in his well-known drawings, which often expressed strong opinions about religion, politics, and culture by using both erotic and satanic imagery. In his renderings, everyday objects, such as chairs, were fitted with eyes, suggesting an omniscient power to spy on human beings. Sexual organs were disembodied, floating in the air and morphing into threatening monsters.
You Only Live 25 Times, organized by LACMA Wallis Annenberg Curatorial Fellow Noëllie Roussel, incorporates Mrzyk and Moriceaus playful yet ironic style with Rops sense of humor. Influenced by Rops, Mrzyk and Moriceau integrate his stylistic elements and imagery with their own artistic language. Together, the work of these three artists forms an exhibition steeped in the long tradition of drawing, while remaining distinctly contemporary and provocative. Michael G. Wilson, the donor of the Rops collection to LACMA, is a producer of James Bond films, and Mrzyk and Moriceau often base the titles of their works on Bond movies, as they do here.

STPL + NEW ERA = THINKING CAP
This STAPLE x NEW ERA 59Fifty fitted baseball cap brings us back to the Public School days. Ironic how teachers would tell students to put on their thinking caps, but banned fitteds from the classroom. The embroidered graphics of gears on the front panels symbolises thought, but cyclists can relate to this one as well.
Embroidered on the underbill is this statement: “Teachers work harder than you do, no matter what you do”. The STAPLE Thinking Cap will be arriving in color ways: White, Kelly Green, and Black. Coming in Spring 2008.

Jay Z Says He Inspired A Generation Of Bad Writers
Jay-Z, whose "Rain Man" recording process finds him mumbling words to himself in the studio before stepping into the booth to spit out a complete song, definitely has the corner locked when it comes to rappers composing full songs in their heads. Young tykes like Chris Brown and Sean Kingston even cite Hov as an inspiration for their own songwriting processes.
"I've inspired a generation of bad writers," Jay joked to MTV News last week.
But the Def Jam president and iconic rapper obviously wrote down lyrics at one point in time. In fact, he revealed the last time he actually did so was for "Can I Live," a standout track on his 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt.
"What happened was, I was doing that song with someone else, and they heard the first verse and they was like, 'Man, you take that song. Finish it, 'cause it sounds like you got a lot more to say,' " Jay explained in a lengthy interview in which he discussed lyrics and songwriting. "You know, that type of thing. So I just wanted to get it down quick, I didn't want to keep going over it. It was like [the album's] mastering time, so I just sat down in the booth and wrote that [verse]."
The verse contains multiple gems over the woozy, horn-laden production, like the lines: "I stepped it up another level, meditated like a Buddhist/ Recruited lieutenants with ludicrous dreams of getting cream/ Let's do this, it gets te-di-ous/ So I keep one eye open like, C-B-S, you see me stressed, right?"
According to Irv Gotti, who produced the track, the song was supposed to be a collaboration between Jay and a member of the rap group Original Flavor. Gotti mentioned he believed Nas was also set to appear on the track. But after the OF member passed on the guest appearance, Jay got to work finishing the song.
"From what I remember, he actually didn't write the full verse," Gotti wrote in an e-mail to MTV News. "But since the verse was so long, he wrote a few words down, and that made him remember the whole verse."
Although Jay has long since given up writing down lyrics himself, his advice for one of his nephews, who's an aspiring MC in his own right, is to write as much as possible. Repetition is the key to perfection, according to Jay.
"Why I tell him to write every day is because it's like anything else: [You have to] practice," he said. "Basketball players play basketball their whole life, they practice every day. It only makes sense. You can only get better. The repetition. The more you do it, the better you do."
Though Jay has removed himself from the writing process, he admitted the notion of actually penning lyrics still appeals to him. So much so that he wanted to write down lyrics for The Black Album, which he believed was going to be his last album. But he couldn't shake the process that he's made so famous.
"It just felt better [the way I do it now]," Jay said. "In my mind, I said, 'OK, I'm gonna sit down and I'mma just write it and really do this thing a certain way.' But your natural process is your process. It's difficult to go back to what you was doing when you was 15, 16 years old. My process is different now. It sounds great on paper, like 'I'mma sit down, I'm going to write the entire album like I did before.' But once you get back in the studio and you've been doing this process for years and years now, so it just felt natural to do it the way I've been doing it: no paper, no pen, just listen to the music."
I guess the fad of "I don't use a notebook" is officially over....why did it seem like EVERYONE who said that, had some of the worst shit ever.
Exactly.

Nas' Controversial LP Bumped To February: Black History Month
So far there's been a lot of talk about Nas' controversially titled new LP, Nigger, but no music. The man — and the album's title — has caused incitement and excitement without the public hearing a single note or rap.
Nas had originally planned to put the project out next month, but according to his camp, the album has been pushed to February: Black History Month. Nas told MTV News the first single will drop sometime in January.
And over the weekend, a snippet of what was labeled a new Nas record called "What It Is" leaked to the Net.
"Racist neighbors flinchin'," he rhymes. "They don't know if I'mma rob them/ Or if I'm Russell Simmons/ They thought it was me, just like Mike Bivens/ They pray for my downfall like the mom of Robin Givens."
Nas' camp said the MC is still working out the album's final track list. On Monday afternoon (November 26), Nas himself clarified to MTV News that "What It Is" will definitely not be on the album. Those are vocals that were leaked and added onto a random beat.
"I never rhymed to that beat," he said.
Atlanta's DJ Toomp (T.I., Ludacris) and longtime Nas collaborator Salaam Remi have already contributed tracks, in addition to a slew of new producers. Diddy and his new Hitmen are also scheduled to come onboard before production closes in the next week or so.
While community leaders such as the Reverend Al Sharpton have spoken out against Nas' use of the N-word, the wordsmith has gained a swell of support from his peers — including Alicia Keys, Method Man, LL Cool J and even Def Jam founder Russell Simmons — as well as current label head L.A. Reid.

FRESH: Into The World of Cornelius
I first came across these dudes like 5 years ago. I smoked a blunt with a friend and we started watching Subterranean (120 Minutes) on MTV, I'm not sure if they still have it, but they used to play some of the weirdest, strangest videos ever. (First place I saw Bjork's Possibly Maybe too....). Anyway, I remember trippin out watching this video and
Cornelius, aka Keigo Oyamada, burst onto the U.S. radar with 1997's Fantasma, an overwhelming bricolage of Beach Boys harmonies, psych-pop precision parts, and odd samples that fit perfectly between the sunny naïvete of the Elephant 6 collective and the cosmopolitan chic of the Grand Royal label. His 2001 album Point refined the exuberance, but laid bare Oyamada's prog-rock affections, kraut rhythm obsession, and new age production ear for esquisite organic sound artifacts. (Some folks weren't so psyched: Momus wrote in his blog that he refers to the album as "disappoint.") Between then and now Cornelius has remixed in 5.1 surround sound, produced sound/film/video art installations, recorded commercials, produced a number of artists, and been raising his son Milo with his wife Takako Minekawa. His 2007 album, Sensous, delivers its title as a new age-prog jazz aural rubdown standing firmly and proudly outside trends.

He Say She Say: Jay Z's Ghostwriter?
Now, every morning after the workout, I hop online and check out my daily hip hop news sites, allhiphop.com being one of them. I'm always intrigued by the rumors I read about (gossip whore?). So, today, like every other day, I follow my routine and came across this rumor. Here's a video of a rapper by the name of Famous, rumor has it (Wendy Williams) that the reason American Gangster was completed so fast was because homie in question helped out our resident "top 5 dead or aliver" Jay Z. Ya'll be the judge.

Break A Leg: TiRon, Inverse, Nieve, Mis Led and MUDluscious Performing Live @ Whiskey A Go Go
This year turned out to be my most successful year since I decided to take this music shit seriously....and I'm loving it. I'm kinda nervous about the show tonight, mainly cause this is my first time playing at this club, and from what i've gathered it's a pretty legendary spot. Artists like Led Zeppelin and The Doors graced the same stage im about to stand on today, and all I keep thinking is.....I CAN'T FUCK THIS UP! I'm kinda hard on myself when it comes to performances haha. last week I had a show at Little Temple....easily the worst show I have ever done. everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. From hecklers to the music not working, even to Tunj slipping and falling on stage....but we held it together, gritted our teeth and got through it (SHOUTS TO TUNJ!). So you can guess that my mind and heart are in different spots right now....my mind is playing devils advocate while my heart is in Sly Stallone mode. last night at rehearsal I kinda zoned out...I think we all did. everybody found their pocket and freaked it, and to be honest, im really excited about tonight....

The New Cubists...
It’s crazy enough that the “WORLD RUBIK’S CUBE CHAMPIONSHIP” is even a real thing, but Chris Krueger’s record-setting performance for correctly configuring one BLINDFOLDED (1 minute, 15 seconds) at this year’s competition in Budapest, Hungary (the obvious location) is quite possibly the coolest nerd trick on Earth. Just peep those preliminary mental calculations with his crazy Rubik spider fingers. Dude is 100% operating on some next level skillsets…
