REVIEW: Lupe Fiasco - The Cool (SNIPPETS)

01 Baba Says Cool for Thought
Intro sounds reminiscent of the Food & Liqour intro, but less obnoxious

02 Free Chilly [ft. Sarah Green and Gemstones]
This track sounds very promising, obviously a dedication to FNF's recently incarcerated CEO Chilly.

03 Go Go Gadget Flow
Recycled verses from his Crucial Conflict freestyle, but with the new beat and fly hook, sounds very fresh

04 The Coolest
This song is very dope, one of the leaked. "A match made in heaven set the fires in hell"

05 Superstar [ft. Matthew Santos]
Personally not a fan of this song, but in context with the other songs it sounds better to me

06 Paris, Tokyo
Another leaked track, with A Tribe Called....feel to it, to me its very smooth, yet quickly gets monotonous

07 Hi-Definition [ft. Snoop Dogg and Pooh Bear]
This sounds like one of those songs that you would assume could be one of the weakest on the album, but prolly will be much doper once heard in full

08 Gold Watch
For some reason I get a neptune-ish feel out of the beat, pocket wise. Definately bumpable

09 Hip-Hop Saved My Life [ft. Nikki Jean]
This sounds very fresh

10 Intruder Alert [ft. Sarah Green]
Incredible

11 Streets on Fire
This sounds cool. Matthew's voice isn't as annoying..

12 Little Weapon [ft. Bishop G and Nikki Jean]
Has a little outkast feel to it, very fresh and a clear indication in the progression of Lupe from Food & Liquor to The Cool

13 Gotta Eat
Very dope

14 Dumb It Down [ft. Gemstones and Graham Burris]
I hate this shit, lyrics are dope of course

15 Hello/Goodbye (Uncool) [ft. UNKLE]
Failed attempt at a Rock/Hip Hop hybrid. Lupe's voice on the hook is unbearable

16 The Die [ft. Gemstones]
Snippet starts off fresh, then the hook takes a leap off the deep in

17 Put You on Game
This sounds like its gonna be cool

18 Fighters [ft. Matthew Santos]
This is one track where I actually dig Matthew's voice, and this also sounds like its going to be one of the standout tracks

19 Go Baby [ft. Gemstones]
This sounds very very dope

Overrall, this album sound surprisingly promising. I admit that due to the leaked tracks I hadn't anticipated its release until i heard The Coolest. Food & Liquor, while being incredible lyrically and having many standout gems, was just an OK album to me. From the snippets it seems as if The Cool is shaping up to be a formidable follow-up and debatably superior album. Can't wait for the release. 12/18

Food And Liquor isn't an average record, but lets be honest...its definately not an Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, All Eyez On Me, Marshall Mathers LP, Low End Theory, Blueprint, Doggystyle, 36 Chambers, etc. We're talking about albums that transcend time periods, albums that stand the test of time and still shine no matter what. As for the "too intelligent" comment,

"Just cause no one can understand what you speak don't necessarily mean that what you be sayin is deep." - Kweli

The purpose of this hip hop music is to connect with the people, now the people might be on some dumb shit, but if you're really representing this hip hop shit, then you are supposed to speak to those that are ignorant and educate. Food and Liquor, although great for rap nerds, backpackers, and white boy college kids (which you probably are)....the album as a whole didn't move as many people as any of the classic records I just mentioned. So please.....go suck Lupe Fiasco's dick on his website (www.lupefiasco.com), this website is for true hip hop enthusiasts that analyze records from all points and perspectives...and if we offended you or your boyfriend, our apologies. But lets be real, on the scale of classic records....that album doesn't have the proper weight to it. I bet you probably don't even listen to it anymore....do you??

Exactly.

i have to disagree a bit, F&L isnt a classic but defintely has alot of depth. I think tht album has a hell of alot of substance and songs tht connect to peoples lives. Sound steps so far out from the norm nowadays and still has u bumbing ur head. I dont fall into any of those groups and i still enjoy tht album. not to meantion Lu's flow is better than 90% of the game. And just like great writers in literature, lupe sets the bar for the intelligence it takes to listen to his music you as the listener have to go his level to understand. Lupe is making more than music he sending a message tht if perfected could change the mantailty of the hood. theres more to life than bitches, money, and hoes.

Okay im sittin here now listenin to this new album.

ive got several of his old mixtapes and have way too much of a love for F&L.

This new album is good ill say that but it lacks something in my eyes, not sure exactly what it is but im not sure im liking it.

the rhymes are still good, lupe always speaks the truth and whats goin on i like that. but the beats in this album are a bit weaker than his older stuff, this sounds a little quieter and if i dare say it its a bit more commercial.

and yea im a white boy but music has no colour!
